China got 6,000 restoration plans for the Great Wall

www.chinanews.cn 2006-01-24 15:24:56

Chinanews, Jan. 24 - Relevant organizations have collected nearly 6,000
restoration plans for the Great Wall.
According to the Great Wall Society of China and the Badaling
Administration Office, those restoration plans were collected via
telephones, faxes, letters, e-mails, questionnaires and samples.
Yan Daojun, secretary-general of the Great Wall Society of China, said
that the plans came from all sectors of the society, including farmers
and overseas Chinese. This activity lasted from Nov. 4, 2005 to Jan. 20
this year.
As the 8th wonder of the world, the Great Wall receives tens of thousands
of visitors from home and abroad every year. Owing to misbehaviors of
many visitors, however, the Great Wall is covered with scratches and
smears.
All restoration plans collected in the past few months will undergo
careful examination and appraisal of experts to find out practicable ones.

Bank to offer private loan by personal credit

www.chinanews.cn 2006-01-19 15:06:19

Chinanews, Jan. 19 C Personal credit can help one to get loans. The
China Construction Bank (CCB)s Wenzhou branch will soon expand its
scope of personal comprehensive credit granting service and offer loans
to individuals with up to one million yuan depending on ones personal
credit.
Previously, due to an incomplete personal crediting system and potential
risks involved, all banks in China did not offer loans to individuals.
The computerized, nationwide personal crediting system, launched last
July, facilitated banks to provide such service. As the crediting system
improves, banks get momentum to launch the service one again.
If a persons credit record is good enough, banks can provide a loan of
up to one million yuan to him without mortgages or guarantee. However,
the China Construction Bank provides such service only for those who has
met certain requirements specified by the bank, such as a good personal
credit record, no illegal filing, and strong capability of repayment.
Clients who can get personal loans from CCB are people who mainly work in
the middle- or high-class management level in the national public
institutions, colleges or universities, or those working in prosperous
industries such as electricity, tobacco, telecommunication, financial or
insurance sectors, hospitals at provincial or city levels, or companies
appraised by CCB as key clients.

New CNOOC oil field starts operation

www.chinanews.cn 2005-12-06 09:26:29

(Source: Xinhua)

Dec.6 - China National Offshore Oil Company Limited (CNOOC Ltd.)announced
Monday that its independent oil field in the Eastern South China Sea has
come on stream successfully.
The oil field, Lufeng (LF) 13-2, is flowing about 18,000 barrels of oil
per day from three horizontal wells. The production capacity of these
wells is tested at 30,000 barrels of oil per day.
LF13-2 is located in the western part of Block LF 08 in the Pearl River
Mouth Basin with a water depth of approximately 132 meters. The field is
about 210 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong and 12 kilometers northwest
of producing field LF13-1.
Major production facilities of the project include a wellhead production
platform, a 12-kilometer subsea pipeline and cables.
The crude will be transported to and processed in LF13-1.
LF13-2 is the first project developed by CNOOC Ltd. independently in the
Eastern South China Sea.
CNOOC Ltd. holds 100 percent of interest of the field and acts as the
operator.
The successful start up of the project has laid a solid basis for CNOOC
to achieve its goal of producing 55 million cubic meters of oil and gas
by 2010, said a senior manager with CNOOC Ltd..
So far, the Eastern South China Sea has seen its annual oil and gas yield
surpass 10 million cubic meters for 10 consecutive years and has become
the fourth largest oil field of the country.
CNOOC Limited, incorporated in Hong Kong, is a 70.64 percent held
subsidiary of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC),
China's largest offshore oil producer.
CNOOC Limited is the sole vehicle through which CNOOC carries out oil and
gas exploration, development, production and selling activities offshore
China and internationally.

Nov. 30 - China's foreign exchange regulator clarified yesterday that
local banks were not breaching exchange rate rules when they quoted the
renminbi at an unprecedentedly strong 7.9997 against the US dollar last
week.
"This was in line with the existing exchange rate regulations and was
normal market behaviour by the banks," the State Administration of
Foreign Exchange (SAFE) said in a statement.
Bank of China, the country's largest foreign exchange bank, and some
other banks quoted a 7.9997 yuan buying price for the dollar in cash last
Friday, the first time the currency had passed a psychologically
sensitive line of 8 to 1.
That marked the strongest performance of the Chinese currency since a
landmark reform on July 21, when China allowed the renminbi to appreciate
by 2.1 per cent against the US dollar to 8.11 and started linking it to a
basket of foreign currencies instead of the greenback only.
But as major trading partners led by the US, which complains that the
renminbi is undervalued to give Chinese exports an unfair advantage,
continued to press for further appreciation, expectations for a stronger
yuan remain in the marketplace, analysts said.
"That's simply because people think the appreciation was not big enough
and fell short of market expectations," said Li Ruoyu, an analyst with
the State Information Centre, adding that observers had been widely
expecting a 5-10 per cent appreciation.
But the prices banks are quoting are not equivalent to the overall level
of the renminbi exchange rate, which is represented by the central parity
SAFE announces every day based on the closing price of the interbank
forex market on the previous day, the administration said.
Under the current exchange rate regime, authorized banks are allowed
after considering market conditions, their own forex positions and the
credibility of clients to quote buying and selling prices for the US
dollar within a range equivalent to 4 per cent of the central parity.
The difference between US dollar buying and selling prices offered by the
banks last Friday was 1.18 per cent from the central parity that day.
At a briefing yesterday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao
reiterated China's position on its reform of the exchange rate, saying
the country has never manipulated the renminbi.
